Beyond the constitutional requirements, it helps if you wear your (mainstream) Christian faith proudly and you happen to be the son of a former president. It does not matter if you are not all that clever and you have been a failure in everything you have ventured to do (on other people's money).

The sole requirements to be President of the United States are as follows.
1. Natural resident (by birth) of the United States.
2. No convictions of a felony crime (indictments are Okay).
3. be 35 years old or older

The President is expected to be elected but a subordinate may become President if the President in office dies or is removed. Evidentially the Supreme Court may also appoint a President even though the Constitution makes no such allowance.

There are no other requirements of any kind.

Age and Citizenship requirements - US Constitution, Article II, Section 1

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.

Term limit amendment - US Constitution, Amendment XXII, Section 1 – ratified February 27, 1951

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

At least 35 years of age, natural born U.S citizen, lived in U.S for at least 14 years.
