Before it burned out I had a miss on accelleration that i could not get rid of. The second distributor lasted about 200 miles. The distributor was a rebiult not new and did make some noise when first started. Is there anything that i can check before i put the third one on.

The worst enemy of the solid state module, in the distributor, is heat. Any and all solid state devices generate a lot of heat and need a means to dissipate it. First the base of the module needs to be clean and the mounting area, in the distributor needs to be clean, free of rust and flat. The new module should come with a small package of 'heat sinking' compound. This is a special type of grease which helps to make a good thermal bond between the module and the surface where it is mounted. Without a good thermal bond, to dissipate heat, the module will rapidly burn out.

More or less it seems you might have a short or open in your ignition system. You should check with a ohm meter to see if that is the case. Start with your coil it could have low resisstance causing high current. Also check your spark plug wires and plugs aswell. Now even your distributor shaft itself could be warped alittle bit. Causing uneven distirbution of current signal to plugs. And do make sure to buy module new if it burns out you obviously have a bad circuit somewhere. Look for it and don't put any more modules in it till you find it.

The resistor has been removed from the +12 V side of the coil.

your distributor wiring is faulty, high voltage is getting to your distributor somehow. mabe something from a charging circuit is tied into that circuit.
