Manchester Victoria

Well it depends where you're travelling from, the physically nearest station is Manchester Victoria, for Leeds and other trains from the Norths but if travelling from the south you'll get in at Manchester Piccadilly.

Happily there's a useful tram system (The Metro) that connects them and a lot of other parts of Manchester, so it's a pretty easy city to get around in.

The Arndale centre is off Market street, two stops from either Piccadilly or Victoria on the Metro. (on the Bury-Piccadilly route)

Alternatively, if you want to avoid London, the crowded Underground, and the need to drag your luggage about, get the direct coach link from Heathrow to reading, and a then a train from there to Manchester. That will involve much less hassle than going through central London.
