Jack has all the positive in his life he can handle right now, lol! ;)

Seriously, a certain amount of realism is necessary. Find what you can concentrate on in your life to effect a change--small changes can add up to big results. Something as little as deciding to get out for a walk everyday, just to be alone with your thoughts, can make a big difference.

Of course, there's always drinking.... (teasing)

I know this is gonna sound cliche but it starts I will give you the old "think positive" answer, but I will elaborate on it.

At first you basically have to force it and it is hard. It wont be your first reaction to things but you have to at least make it your second.

For example if you have to do something and your first thought is "this sucks" you have to make yourself do error correction and think something positive instead.

There is a lot of research on how our thoughts affect our brain chemistry. And so to change the brain chemistry you have to change the thought process. As you do this the brain chemistry will begin to change and then thinking positively becomes a little easier.
This was the whole basis of anti-depressant drugs for people who had onsets of depression. The meds were suppose to change the brain chemistry (in those that were so negative/depressed they just could not do it on their own) After the brain chemistry changes then the person is suppose to get treatment/therapy on how to be more positive and eventually taper off the meds, allowing their own bodies to stabilize brain chemistry. Sadly this isn't what you see, but rather long term anti-depressant use.

Although positive thinking has been greatly praised by self-help gurus, there are some things they fail to realise. Most of the information that bombards us in life is negative. Think about our parents, teachers, friends and bosses etc.

So positive thinking alone can be like covering a mountain of negativity with a sprinkly snow of 'nice' thoughts. It can also be a form of running AWAY fearfully from the unwanted instead of moving excitedly TOWARDS the desired.

If you do use affirmations make them ones that never feel false or doubtful. Use the formula:

"I am now in the process of ........." INSTEAD of

"I now have the perfect ........"

Your subconscious mind works very much from a feelings (or emotions) basis to attract the things you want. Any statement that 'feels' fake will attract a negative result. Hence the reframed type of affirmation.

Apart from this 'reframed' affirmation and view on 'positive thinking', live your life by following your 'bliss' and attending to common sense things like diet, exercise, social life etc.

Watch the self-talk and observe when you are being negative.
Think about what is RIGHT in your life.
Here are some good ideas:
1. Do something that gets your heart rate up a bit like, walking, running, biking, and swimming.
2. Eat Whole, Organic foods like: Broccoli, Cabbage, Organic Brown Rice, Beans, Spinach, Sweet Potato, Apples, and other fruits and vegetables in their Natural State.
3. Avoid eating corn, white bread, white rice, white potatoes, candy, sodas, chips, and anything else that you already know you shouldn’t be eating.
4. Drink clean water as your beverage of choice. Avoid Fruit drinks and fruit juices (unless YOU juice them yourself)
5. Stop smoking, drinking beer & wine, and drinking coffee.
6. Get 8 hours of sleep each night.
7. Hang out with people who want to be healthy.
8. Avoid anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Tone up the muscles:

1. Join a gym and get a trainer.
2. If you’re short on cash, start a light stretching & yoga regimen.
3. Do push-ups, and light dumbbell curls for the upper body.
4. As I said above, walk, run, swim, and or bike
5. Take an aerobics class, a yoga class, or some other fitness class.
6. Join the local YMCA.
7. Buy or borrow this book by Bill Pearl called GETTING STRONGER.
In the book, he describes everything you need for a great fitness plan.
8. Compare your fitness scores to other people by clicking on the President’s Challenge Brochure link here: http://www.presidentschallenge.org/misc/downloads.aspx

Mental Health:

1. Get a friend to talk to each day about your feelings.
2. If you have some money or insurance, get a counselor to talk to.
3. Learn how to meditate.
4. Join a support group for the issue you’re dealing with.
5. Ask your Higher Self (or God) for guidance.
6. Start keeping a diary or journal about your feelings & thoughts.
7. Write a ‘gratitude’ list every night.
8. Do something that makes you happy each day like: listen to your favorite music, draw, paint, write, or anything creative.
9. Do something for someone else who needs help.
10. If the above suggestions don't improve your mental health, talk with your therapist about the possibility of taking some medication.

Take care of yourself

It's about training your mind. It does not see the difference between what you want and what you don't want. If you think "I don't want bad things to happen", it only hears "I want bad things to happen". So you have to learn how to rephrase all your inner desires in positive only words. Such as "I will be more positive", not "I will not be negative". Sounds simple, right! Because the majority of the world is negative it will take a long time to master.
