To be able to vote at election time for the President and Vice-President of their choice even across party lines-----this would let the electors know what the voters wanted. Party politics is too restrictive of the will of the people in my opinion. In article two of the Constitution which directs how to elect the President and Vice-President, I see no mention of going thru parties such as GOP and DEM. This is election reform--as it now stands about 5% of the nation's voters control the elections because of party politics.

in the 18th and 19th centuries there was a system quite like this. however, you voted for just president and the runner up was vice president. they soon found that the runner up didn't always like the president and wouldn't help him out - so they let the president pick his own VP.

i think the system you described is interesting, but would have the same problems as the aforementioned. can you imagine Bush-Gore '04?

Read your history. There was a time when the Vice-President was the presidential candidate with the second highest vote count. The result caused the Executive Branch to be at constant war with itself. That is why it was changed to the way it is now.

Maybe we should have the parties take 2 candidates to the general election and have voters vote for 1 candidate for President and 1 for Vice-President. Thanks!

Yes I would like to be heard as a Republican in my support for Kucinich

Who cares if the V.P. likes the President it is irrelevant.. Gore would have been an effective weight against Bush rushing to action on false information. His popularity ensures it.
