Mostly free. Some of my unfreedom comes from my own choices, such as having a family to support, owning a home, etc. Probably the biggest lack of freedom in my case comes from taxation.
Sure I own a home, but unless I cough up $4k in property taxes each year, the gov't will take it away. Same with income taxes. If I don't pay them, they'll take my things away and punish me.
I'm also not free to take any drug I want, and I'm talking about prescription type medication here, not narcotics.
I'm sure there are other things where my freedom of choice has been regulated away, but that's all that comes to mind right now.

In the united states freedom is an illusion. Granted you have more rights then -some- other countries, but most people will give up those rights the instant the president says the "T" word. Doesn't matter who's in office anyway, because the major cooperations are the ones with the money, thus they are the ones who make the laws.

free is state of mind.. is the state of mind at any moment of your life.. at this moment of time.. when you are reading this.. you think you are free.. maybe.. the smaller you make your circle.. of life.. (patent pending).. the more free you feel.. but more less freedom you have .. its a state of mind.. and how you feel in that state..
a poor women in Africa with dictator ruler, 3rd wife of rich warlord, may feel more free when she can do what she wants.. at the same time.. wife of CEO of one of fortune 500 companies who is told every morning where she has to be at specific time.. may be a cages bird.. even though the country is one of the best free nations in the world..

Free enough to make choices that effect me and everyone surrounding me. Choices from what clothes to wear in the morning (effects my use of natural resources in the amount of heat needed in the house to be warm), choosing to share the ride to work (effects the amount of gasoline used), choosing to eat healthily at lunch (effects my productivity), choosing to spend time with my family (effects them and those around them)... the effects of my choices are far reaching - so are everyones. And we're free to make those choices every single day.

My degree of freedom at any given time depends on everything in that context...It varies. I'm home now, so my freedom takes on a different connotation. Free, with connsequences, I guess.
