Just put some rocks on one side high enough so the turtle can get out of the water and sit under a basking light. Use slate or some other flat rocks.

There's a couple different ways you could do this.
If you wanted to just make a rock surface for the land side, you could do what the last girl said. There are also floating land pieces you can buy that would allow the turtle to climb on top of it and have somewhere to lay but also the entire tank to swim in.
If you wanted to use substrate, I'm almost positive there are waterproof dividers you can put into tanks. I'm not sure how expensive they are, or how difficult they are to install, but I think they are a permanent feature so make sure that you really want to have it where you put it.
You could always make your own too. Use a waterproof non-toxic sealant to attach a piece of plexiglass where you want the tank divided. You don't want the divider to go all the way up the tank because he will be able to get out of the land side. Get a tall tank that's at least 20 gallons, preferably 29 with this type of setup. Make sure it's tall rather than long.

As someone else mentioned, box turtles do not require so much water. The box turtle is primarily terrestrial, meaning they prefer land. I have four box turtles that live outside. I have a small tub that I sank into the ground to act as their pool. They do need enough water to get into occasionally, but i think half of the tank would be excessive, unless it's a huge tank.

Box turtles DO NOT WANT 1/2 water. They are land turtles and are happy with a water dish.
Water turtles, like sliders, want mostly water and a basking site- not 1/2 land.
Try http://www.austinsturtlepage.com for some good care info for whatever species you really have.

i belive you already asked this question on a different thread...
my answer is the same:
well, you could divide the aquarium top and bottom, top dry, bottom water. you would achieve this by filling the tank 50/50 with water and adding lots of floating stuff to the top. that's what most people do. here are examples:

if you want to divide the aquarium in a different direction (left and right) you could create a steep gravel slope so half the gravel is above water. that would make it easier if you wanted tho plant live plants above ground. but either way would work.
though it's true box turtles really don't need that much water. if your set on that aquarium stetup try sliders.
example of a yellow bellied slider:

At pets mart there are those relatively lovable little turtles that are approximately 35 funds yet pets mart has greater cost-effective stuff and a much wider verity. those turtles are approximately as enormous a a golfing ball as toddlers they at the instant are not getting lots greater suitable. they like the water greater suitable than land yet they do flow on land in case you positioned a number of their cage. i choose one yet my mom won't permit me
