If the dog latches onto you try to avoid hitting it, as that will excite the dog further, and he may not let go even if you seriously injure him. Instead, try to ram a stick, broom handle, bicycle pump or other object down the dogs throat to induce its gag reflex. This will cause the dog to let go.

If a dog has interlocking jaws it may not let go even if it is seriously injured. Sticking a finger or stick into the dog's anus will cause a reflex reaction and the animal will release its grip
hope this helps.

Just don't pet dogs you don't know or don't know you.

Stand still. Don't approach, pet, or talk to the animal--but don't run away either. "Dogs are pursuit predators with a chase reflex," Dr. Fetko says. "Keep quiet, and stand at a 90-degree angle [sideways] to the dog. You should see him in your peripheral vision without facing or looking at him directly." Minimize injury. "If you're being bitten and the dog doesn't release, slowly move closer," says Dr. Fetko. "The worst damage occurs when you try to pull away or the dog shakes its head." Then yell. A biting dog may respond to a loud, authoritative "No, back!" {1}

If it is a male dog, kick hard in its testicles; if it's biting you, you have no time for animal-loving touchy-feely sentiments. Another alternative is to attempt to force your arm (free one if necessary) right down into its throat. It may sound unpleasant, and is (especially for the dog), but self-preservation is the objective, and this can kill the dog if need be.

I always try to push my arm further into it's mouth. It's the opposite of what it expects you to do and it is a more aggressive move. Stare into it's eye's while you do it but keep your face away from his.

The other move is to turn your arm over so that the dog's head has to flip over. This uses your leverage to break the dog's hold on your arm.
