Sims 2 takes up a lot of your computer's memory. The best way to run the game is to make sure that your computer meets the game's system requirements.
Depending on how old your computer is, you might either benefit from updating your video card, some new memory (or more memory), and a faster processor. If your computer is really old, it's probably best to buy a new one.
My husband just updated our DirectX drivers last night, and I noticed a significant improvement over my gameplay last night. You can also try updating all of your drivers for your memory and video cards. That usually helps too.
Another way to make your game faster is to delete any unused programs and games on your system. How many games are installed vs. how many you are actually playing at one time? If you have 5 games installed, and are only playing one or two games, then uninstall the others. There's no need to waste space on your computer if you aren't playing them.

i would recomend checking your system requirements if it is lagging then i recomend buying some RAM for your computer its about 40$ for 512MB of it and if you buy 2 of these you should have no problem running it. However if it is a graphics card problem then it may be slightly more expensive as a decent graphics card can ealsily set you back upwards of 200$

You will probably need to upgrade your video card and/or RAM to get better performance. If your computer is really old, you may need to upgrade your CPU as well. Check the game's recommended system requirements, and compare that to what you already have. This should indicate whether or not you need to upgrade your hardware.

I to be honest i don't really know! I have sims 2 which was quite slow, then i got university, which made it go really slowly, and then i got nightlife and its loads really quick and everything! I don't know if it was the computer or the game, but Nightlife solved all my problems lol!
