They wouldn't do that. Home field advantage throughout the playoffs is important. The Patriots have to make sure that they finish the season with more games won than all the other teams in AFC to secure homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.
I agree with others about the undefeated record. I am sure Tom wants to finish with his team undefeated. He really cares about the team. He'd rather have his team undefeated than rest early. Tom loves to win and hates to lose. He's highly competitive, and he doesn't like to quit.

Long term Pats fan - no. Three reasons - 1) He won't sit, 2) most coaches won't pull anyone until the 4th anyway if the lead is huge and, 3) if they sit too long they get stale, like the 04 Colts did when Dungy sat the starters for close to a month.

As long as the o-line can protect and they are winning, he'll play enough - even in 3 quarters, he smokes most other QBs.

I don't think so. At least not for the 1st half, or possibly 3 quarters. I think they know they have a legit shot at going undefeated, and are going for. Although they won't admit it publically, they are proving a point to the league and anyone else who will pay attention.
