I have a great family of 4 and a three year old granddaughter. This year has been very difficult for us financialy. My wife is disabled and the money I make on my job berely pays the bills. We always have had a good Christmas especialy for our granddaughter. Christmas is a very special time for our family and even though our gifts were few, it always was a grand time of year. But this year at this point I can't even afford to pay our electric bill to enjoy all the lights we are accustom to0 so we only have our tree lit. As for gifts I will probably try to make things to give away but the kids are tough to get for with limited funds. Is there any charities out there that could help? I am not one to take charity at all and this is difficult for me to ask. But I'm up against the wall here and I want my kids to have a grand Christmas. Especialy our grandchild and my wife since she feels awfull about her situation and not being able to help. Thank you for listening.

I'm not sure of the area in which you live. But most areas have local Churches and other organizations that take names of families, and bring them Christmas.

I would love to help you find an area in which you live. Email me with your location, and I will see what I can figure out for you.

God Bless you, and yours!

Hmmm.. Whatever happened to being thankful for what you have? Christmas is a special time for alot of families why not explain to your family that you just can't afford all the luxuries this year ? You said you already have a tree with lights . Is it not more important to keep a roof over your families head rather then splurge on all the unnecesary material things? Why not just get together for a nice family meal and go to the town parade or enjoy walking the neighbour hood for a free light show with your grandchild and kids? Why do you think Christmas is all about having to buy gifts? Christmas is not all about the big gifts and watching kids go crazy happy over useless garbage. Try teaching your grandchild the reality of what it is like for millions of families across the world. If you think it's that important to you then you've lost the true meaning and spirit. I really don't believe you are a charity case there are other people that could probably really use the charity so you should think before you make that step searching for handouts. Why not take your kids and volunteer at a church or shelter for xmas then I'm sure you'll know what I'm talking about!

I have no clue where you would go to get help buying Christmas presents, but here are a few places that I have seen that donate toys to children.

1. Try the college in your area. Many of the colleges that I have been in have a Christmas tree up with names and ages of children that people can donate a gift to.
2. Try your community gym. I work at a rec center and every year we have a breakfast with Santa that costs $4 and each child gets breakfast and a gift. This might be something that your local rec center does as well.
3. Look in second hand shops for presents. Places like ARC and Goodwill have bags of used toys for $5. You can also get some really good deals there such as color tag days where they pick a color of tag and everything that is tagged in that color is 50% off.
4. My last suggestion is to go to the dollar store. They do have some toys and coloring books and such that are sutable for a 3 year old girl. The best part is everything in the store is one dollar.

Christmas has become so commercialized, that this is what it's done to you and your family. Presents are not what should make the holiday special, but rather being with friends, family and loved ones and enjoying their company. About 2 years ago my family decided to make gifts for each other, rather than buy. The thought process that goes into the gifts now shows much more. We truely enjoy this tradition now, and start working on the next years gifts the day after christmas. Try it and feel how good it feels when someone that you've made a gift for uses it all year long!!

Sorry mate ............ I can't help I am too far away. Don't you belong to a church that can help you financially, but I really do not know if they would help you with money for your Christmas lights. I live in a country where the people are so poor, that some of the children and adults have never received a Christmas gift in their lives. We try to give these people each a meal on Christmas day .... a slice of bread and a cup of soup. and that will propably be their only meal for that day. Hope some one will help you so that you can put all your lights up.

It depends on where you live but in my community there is the Crisis Center, Goodwill, an area community program, the ecumenical council, the boy scouts, the Rotary club, the various churches and I have probably forgot some! Remember you may need it this year but next year you may be able to help someone else.

Inquire at the Salvation Army facility near you. In my area, Salvation Army works in conjunction with the Marine's Toys for Tots program to distribute holiday gifts to those in need.
