I have accidentally stumbled upon another person's profile on Facebook who happened to share similar interests/beliefs as me, and we both go to the same university. I would like to meet him in real life, but I think it might appear as rather unusual since people don't befriend people in real life via the Internet (or do they?) Is it possible to befriend someone in real life after finding u both have common interests on Facebook?

PS: The main problem also is that there are people who go about stalking others, but I am only interested in befriending new people with similar interests/beliefs.

People do make freinds over the internet. You just have to be careful not to get yourself into trouble, because some people will act like someone on the internet then be totally different in real life. You have to be sure they aren't trying to trick you or something.

Yes, friendships and love relationships do sometimes begin on the internet. I'm married to a man who contacted me through AOL because my profile caught his interests.

I think it would be weird for you to just go up to the person and say "Hey! I saw your profile on Facebook, and we have some things in common, so I thought I'd talk to you next time I saw you." I know that would freak me out a little bit. The best way to go about this is to send an email and hook-up that way. I think it's going to feel a little weird anyways, considering you know who the person is already.
