One year for first-class, less for other types. After the year is up, mail is returned to sender with the address correction, for a period of six months. After that, it's returned as forwarding order expired.
However, some mailers include endorsements on the mail piece and you may not get the piece. Endorsements are additional instructions to the USPS, for which the mailer pays extra. If your package has an endorement on it, it could affect if you get it or not.
If it says 'forwarding service requested', it will be forwarded to you and the mailer will receive a photocopy of the piece with the address correction noted. If it says 'return service requested', the piece goes back to the sender with the address correction noted, and the piece must be re-sent. If this is the case with yours, there could be a problem, since the address won't match the billing address.
You need to correct your credit card information immediately so this can't happen again.

I hope that you got your merchandise. If you have any other credit cards that need a change of address, don't delay. This is very dangerous because of identity theft.
Not only will the providers that you have accounts with continue to send mail to you at your old address, but other pre-approved credit cards are sent to that address as well.
There is another dangerous practice that credit card companies have started lately. They actually send blank checks for you to use if your account is in good standing.
I ask them not to send blank checks. I have lived in my home a long time, we have a common mailblock and mail has been known to be put in someone else's box.
Anyone can cash these checks. Anyone can use the pre-approved credit cards for themselves. This can cause major problems because all of the activity will show up in your name and become part of your debts.
The best way to ensure that this kind of thing doesn't happen to you is to notify the issuers of every piece of plastic in your wallet each time you move.
I don't want to scare but make everyone aware, identity theft is very devastating to anyone that is a victim. Another scary practice by the USPS, you can actually change your address online. There is a disclaimer of fines, penalties, and imprisonment, but when has something like that ever stopped a thief.

RE:
For how long does USPS transfer mail to your address?
I ordered something with my credit card, billing address being my old address, and they shipped it there. I was just wondering for how long the USPS transfers mail to my new address - I moved about five months ago.

1 year. After 1 year, they send the item back to the sender with a yellow sticker stating your new address.
