I have XP. My lap top works fine through the same connection. When I restart the computer the connection comes back but is lost again in 10 to 15 minutes.

Might be a virus that has not migrated to the laptop. Another possibility: do you need any special software on each HD? If so, the file on the desktop may be corrupted.

I think the previous two answers didn't read the question fully.

If your getting it to work fine with your laptop, and not your vista desktop, and rebooting the desktop (not the dsl modem or router) gets the service to work again for another 15 minutes, the problem isn't in your cable, its in your computer. Sorry I don't know what exactly would be causing this problem, Vista is very new, and most people I know that got it, have gotten rid of it already and come back to XP. Vista just has WAY to many problems.

Since your laptop works, the problem is probably inside the PC. If you have a DSL router or service box that came with a disc, try reinstalling it. Threes not much info to go on here, you may also have a heat problem with your computer which is causing the disconnection.

If you have active up-to-date virus and spyware protection going on, a virus is the last thing I'd be concerned about.

The problem lies in your computer's internet connection, router, or firewall settings.

Check your router and firewall configurations to make sure you're not timing yourself out.

That happened with my cousin this weekend. You probably have a virus in your computer.
*open Internet Explorer.
*click tools.
* Delete Cookies, History, and temporary Internet files.
*Run an Antivirus Scan (this will take a long time).
*(I prefer Norton Antivirus).

Begin by running a complete set of virus checks and defrag you computer...
then contact your isp and see if they are having problems or can trace your problem from their end.
