There a re a lot of single mothers that work with me including myself and we do what ever we need ie(n work o.t. or pick up a second job) we are not condenming the children. to respond to one of the answers my children will not be getting a whole lot for this christmas season they will be getting somethings. If you have ever dealt with people who live on the system they are given checks every month and where we work these people abuse it

It really isn't the kids fault so I probably donate something like good children's books in a basket.

We know of a lady that donated to a family hundreds of dollars worth of toys a couple years ago. We knew the family but did not donate things because we knew what would happen to the toys. We visited them on Christmas night to say Merry Christmas and my kids gave their kids clothing they grew out of (was in new condition)- all the toys that lady bought them were scattered all over the floor - most broken and every one of the toys filthy. It seems the parents didn't have any respect for the toys donated. That broke my heart but still doesn't stop me from donating to Toys 4 Tots and Salvation Army. Some parents are careless and unthankful but there are many who appreciate.
Books is a good way to go because it doesn't have small pieces that will get lost around so many kids.

That's always a tough situation because it's not the childrens fault, but you don't want to support the mother's behavior. I think that I would donate, but not a lot. I'm sure if these kids get just like 2 toys each, it would make them happy because they probably don't get a lot. However, you said that you are a single mother, supporting your kids, so if I was in your situation I don't know that I would, because she should be working just as you are. I would maybe just pick something else to donate to, because then you don't have to feel guilty about not donating. But, yeah, very tough situation. Good luck!

I use to know a person like this. It is so unfair to the rest of us who do work. If your department wants to provide a Christmas for her kids and you cannot afford to participate, then I don't believe you should feel guilty about it. It is truly up to you. I am sure the kids would appreciate the gifts, but you have your own family to be concerned with, especially if you are on a tight income. Maybe just buy something from the dollar store if you feel inclined to do so. You don't have to go all out to make their day special.

Give to the children believe me I know where you are coming from I run a rescue mission and we give clothes and food to the homeless and poor. You know when they get their checks but it is always the children who are suffering. We are going to do a stuffed toy giveaway on christmas eve to make sure the children have at least one toy. Amazing how they work the system. Merry Christmas and God Bless

I would give gifts to the children. You didn't, however, mention if the father is in the picture, or if the woman can afford to place her children in reliable child-care so as to be able to work...

Tracy M is right, its not the kids fault. I would do it, just because you know the kids have a present to open on xmas day..would you like your kids/niece/nephew etc not to have any presents on xmas day??

I would donate.....not to the mother but for her kids. It isn't their fault their mother is lazy and keeps on having children.

Boy... that's a tough one. I guess I would give because I don't think the children should suffer because their mom is a loser.
