There are tools to recover deleted files. But they're not guaranteed to work. Here's why:

When you delete a file, your computer doesn't actually delete the file. It just erases the entry in the file index that points to the file, and makes the space where the file sits available to write new data. It's as if you went into a library, and took the card for a particular book out of the card file and threw it away. The book is still on the shelf - you just don't know where it is.

The recovery software will scan for the file, and tell you what it finds. But the more you use your computer, the more likely it is that that bit of space gets used. So if you really, REALLY need this file, turn your computer off, go search for "memory recovery tools" on another system, or go to the local store and ask them what they recommend. I think Norton Utilities will do this for you.

And while you're there, ask them about backup options, too. They'd be glad to tell you why backing up important data is a good idea.

All you need to do is first go to the recycle bin , then click what ever you want to retrieve from it and click "restore" and "ok". Then you should find it somewhere in your documents.

Hope that helps.

yes

Ontrack's Data Recovery Pro

Hauri's Data Recovery

Get My Data Back

all 3 work well, Hauri is slow but thorough, Ontrack is pretty quick, Get Data Back is the fastest of them all

but in any case you will need other media to recover to ( another hard drive or ?? ) as none will recover to the host drive you are recovering from
