Use tried and true methods or go your own way and think outside the box to fix something?

Myself tried and true most of the time, but every once in a while, outside the box seems to work fine too.

I always try both ways, and if it still doesn't work I kick the living crap out of it. Believe it or not sometimes that works!!

Depends on what it is and on who does the fixing. The tried
and true methods usually work, when they don't then thinking
outside the box can work too. As long as it works, doesn't
matter what method is used.

You need to know when to employ which method.

For example, the previous owner of my house (who I dubbed Mr. Genius...) seemed to always think outside the box. In fact, he didn't even know where the box was... and was damn proud of it!

The things he fixed / built / added to this house are a source of endless frustration. Stuff like building codes and practices are there for a reason.

On the other hand, if you're in a jam and need to get something working pronto, a creative streak can be your best asset.

Safety has to be the top priority though.

Depends on how much tried and true costs. Sometimes, most of the time, I don't have the money to do it right. If it involves a dangerous situation, I'll do what ever it takes to rectify it safely and correctly. But if a slat in my mini blind breaks and I can't afford a new one yet, I'll glue a wooden coffee stirrer to splint it in the meantime. And, I did and it should hold till my income tax refund arrives.

I go by the tried and true way at first but am very good a rigging up something my own way if that does not work. Love duct tape and gorilla glue.

Usually the tried and true first......but sometimes I can't and have to think outside the box.

Duct tape, is that outside the box? Probably not. Whatever gets 'er running again, that will work for me. The mountain man way.

I don't do the fixing in our house . My husband fixes just about anything. The neighbours all know if they need it fixed ,where to come. He is sometimes stymied and does what he calls jury rigging(?) Whatever works is ok with me.
