I've been trying and trying to think of something to get my stepfather for Christmas. I've only known him since January, and he and my mom have been married since June, but I don't know him extremely well because when he's home, I'm usually not, and vice versa. My mom mentioned to me that he's gotten me something really expensive, which she had NO idea about until he came home with it (this after he bought me a new phone and holster for Christmas and gave it to me yesterday as an early gift). I was NOT expecting this from him AT ALL!! I'm shocked, really. Since I had a few more people than usual on my Christmas list this year, my budget for most of them, including my stepfather, was $10. I was able to find something nice for the others, but I'm having a lot of trouble with my step-dad. He likes sports, but no particular team. Doesn't need cologne -- has plenty. My mom has been asking; he's said nothing. I want something that he'll enjoy, though. Please help!

Find out what his favorite cookies or danties are for Christmas and bake them. Put them in a nice tin. I'm sure he will be touched that you took that effort for him.

Give him other gift certificates for shoveling the snow,...help around the house or with the computer.

I looked online to see if you can find a step parent ordament and can you believe it.....I found nothing. Make him a Christmas ordament for his first year of being your step dad.

Give him a homemade gift certificate that you are going to be taking him for ice cream.

This would be really cute. Have the wedding picture of him and your mom and buy an ordnament frame at Walmart for their tree.

Personally I like the cookie idea or the ice cream one. It's about him and spending time with him or for him. He would be touched that you took the time. Step parents want to be accepted and loved by their step children and want to know that they have a role and are important in the family. I think that these gift show that.

Well does he like cross word puzzles? Does he drink coffee?
Does he like nuts? See my step-father liked nuts, so I would get a bag or a canister of his favorite ones. Or is there a certain kind of candy he likes? You can make a creative card as well, not one of those pre maid ones. This way he will know you took some extra time and thought about him. Besides do you have to spend 10$ on everyone? I would seriously think about cutting back a just giving out cards and cookies? This way you can spend a few extra bucks on your step-father? Make a a few batches of cookies or brownies and you will make their day because it's all theirs and they don't have to share. I don't have a lot of money too, so I just make cookies and cupcakes for my family and give gifts to my father, mother, brother, sister, best friend, etc..... Good Luck, but try to cut Conner's where you can and save your hard earned cash for the ppl that your close to.

He sounds like a generous guy. He knows that you're young and don't have a lot of money, so he probably doesn't expect you to buy him a big present.

A few ideas:
A nice calendar reflecting one of his interests, like a sports calendar
You could also make him cookies, or buy him some Christmas candy. As long as he has no dietary restrictions, men typically love food!
Find out from your mother if he drinks coffee or tea. Get him some Starbucks coffee or some gourmet tea bags.

Why not make something for him? You could create some art or some other memento that fits his interests, which you are probably aware of even though you haven't known him for very long. By investing time and thought into the gift, you can make a unique present which will not break your budget and which will be an expression of your new relationship.

How about a remote control holder that goes on the coffee table or one that drapes over the arm of the chair/couch?

If you want to show that you care about his well being, there is a cool tool you can get that you leave in the car. It breaks windows and cuts seat belts if you are in an accident. I don't remember what they are called though.

Since I come from a family of mostly guys, I search for this answer myself each year.

Good luck

Would you consider a book on one of his favoured sports as a good gift? I would. You see, you write a nice inscription inside and it is a good book on his topic of interest and the book is a memento that lasts through time. I like that idea most but you could also give him a shopping voucher to a store of his choosing ... but I still think a personal gift of a book is best. Gifts do not have to be expensive. It was the Lord Jesus who was given the gold frankincense and myrrh... us common people have more ordinary gifts, but the love transforms them to extraordinary. Good luck.

Happy Holidays.

take a picture of your mom or him & your mom to Wal-mart. They have these things that are made of crystal (or something) that you put on a key chain. They will etch the picture inside of it. They are inexpensive, he will have it with him all the time, he'll love it. You order it at the photo dept. Do it soon though so you'll have it back by Christmas
