put a tablespoon of ammonia OR a 1/2 cup of vinegar (usually safer than ammonia) in the wash WITH NO DETERGENT and let it run through the cycles then dry your clothes.

This will happen when you leave damp clothes in the machine. You have two alternatives:

1. Just don't do it again.

2. Run the machine through again on a fairly hot wash (if this possible as you did not say what type of wash you had done) and then hang the washing out in the fresh air a.s.a.p.

I don't know what the exact problem is - there are a number of possible reasons why the washer smells. This article shows the causes and solution to smells in our washer http://www.washing-machine-wizard.com/smelly-washing-machine.html

There is also a washing machine cleaning agent on the market called "purewashe" which cleans the washing machine and makes it smell nice.

Put a little washing powder in the drawer along with some bleach. Run your machine on a boil wash this should clean the pipes out and eliminate the smell.

I have the same problem. I think it's also to do with how clean your machine is. I got a black scum in the dispenser drawer and it's all over the top of the dispenser. Also I doubt limescale build-up helps.

My partner is responsible for the mouldy loads normally as he over-fills the machine and doesn't let it air when he's finished with it. Try some of those, but it basically boils down to getting the laundry out in time! Try setting a kitchen timer to remind you.

it's not the machine it's the clothes. To rid the smell, put a tablespoon or so of ammonia run through wash cycle again, with NO detergent. They'll come out smelling fresh

It's worth checking to see if the waste hose is kinked or blocked. If you have a dishwasher tablet, put it in the machine and run the hottest temp wash whilst it's empty. If that doesn't sort the problem out, you may need to consult a Plumber.

Using ammonia is your answer to getting rid of the smell, but I don't know why people are saying with no detergent....

Add one cup of ammonia to your wash load with your regular detergent.

I do this with all towel loads and any other "smelly" types of loads... like my husband's work clothes.

It keeps everything clean and fresh.

I never leave washing damp in the machine anyhow - not longer than a few hours anyhow because of this.

sometimes the waste hose is to far in the waste pipe so stale water can back up to the machine
