The quality of life for everyone is affected by deforestation. In my lifetime, I've seen huge areas that had contained a rich diversity of wildlife become a sterile urban or suburbian landscape.

the trees stop producing oxygen and absorbing CO2 - green house gases so its not helping the planet - thats the big picture... locally the tree roots and strong and bind the soil so what can happen is if there is wind the soil can blow away or if there is alot of rain the soil can get soggy and become liquid mud under the crust and suddenly woosh, you gate a river of oozy mud ...which will take anythig with it in its path...
