Please don't get any get any animals that needs to be caged.
Don't get any pets that will become a burden and will be neglected or abandoned. Go to shelter and do some service to the animals.

All birds are very messy and require a lot of room. I think its quite cruel to keep a bird that has the inclination and need to fly and spread their wings within a small cage. Now, if you want to provide them with a large area, let them out frequently to even stretch, and are good about keeping up with the mess, then get one, but instead of an actual dove, a pair of lovebirds, which look very much like a dove would be much nicer.

Dont listen to what everyone else says. Listen to someone who actually owns a white dove - ME. I have had him for 2 years and he is a great pet. He is not any more messy than a parakeet or a cockateil. And he does not carry diseases. He is not just like an everyday nasty pigeon. Doves make really great pets, they dont bite like parakeets or cockatiels do, and they are really friendly. Mine freaks out and starts cooing to me as soon as I walk in the room because he is excited to see me. Before you get one you do have to realize that this isnt just a pet that you can get tired of and just release into the wild or just stop taking care of it. It needs food, water and attention everyday. If you think you are responsible enough to take care of one then I say why not? They make really good pets and are easier to take care of then other small birds, especially because they will never bite! Good luck!

Doves are not easy pets to keep and care for, but in case you get your wish, here's a site with good info about keeping and caring for a dove.
http://www.petcaretips.net/pet-dove.html
.
Maybe if you study that site and can show your Mom you know how to care for a dove properly, she'll be more inclined to let you have one.

Why not. If you want a dove why shouldn't you have one. As long as you are prepared to look after it and clean up after it:)

A dove is really a white pigeon. They are dirty birds. Why not get a canary or a cockatiel instead?

why imprison a flying bird? she will be miserable and you will be too. you have to feed her, clean the mess she creates, and your whole room will smell. Forget it.
There is DOVE soap, a special moisturising soap. (white in colour) Buy it and keep it in your bathroom. you will feel clean and smell good too.

A close friend got a serious respiratory infection from keeping doves. I wouldn't do it.
