I thought i could handle having a puppy (toilet trainning), and being pregnant and having 3 children. Now i have found out i cant what can i do, i dont want to upset the person who gave me this puppy for my children, my children are not really bothered about this puppy. I was wondering if i should give it more time. I really need advice i admit i was wrong i thought i could cope but i cant.

I have done some research i take the puppy (15 weeks) outside every 45 mins to do his business. He doesnt do anything he comes back in and does it at the back door!!! I have 3 children under 6 which is difficult as they have trod in it a few times. The worse thing is the childrens grandad gave us the puppy grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!

wells theres two ways,.....
you could kindly tell the person who gave it to you about the probs your having, and if they are true friends they will most deff understand...
or yu could give a little while, dogs are smart animals it doesnt take them long to pick up on what ya want them to do, persevere a little longer and you could reap the rewards.

Having three children and one on the way doesn't give you the time it takes to potty train the one you just received as a gift. Puppies require about the same amount of scrutiny and patience as a child. You have set your standards but you don't speak puppy, it takes observation to be able to determine the signs that the puppy uses to tell you that it needs to "go", and puppies, like children, very often don't pay much attention to the urgency of their need until it overcomes them. Perhaps, if some of your children are old enough, they could help you in the process of training your pet. It will help the children and the pet if you can establish this system and it will give you more time for other things as well. Make sure you are consistent in the method you use to train the puppy and be sure your children understand as well. There are a lot of good books out there on the subject you need help with, and a world of information at your fingertips. I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance.

In my opinion you have your hands full. While a dog is a wonderful addition to any family (especially one with children), the training of a puppy is very time- and patience- consuming.

Tell the person who gave you the puppy, that the situation just isn't working out. You've given it 3 weeks....that is long enough and the giver shouldn't be offended. He/she can take back the puppy and find another worthy home for him.

Later on, you may consider an older puppy who is trained already. Really, you've got enough to do!

Best of luck.

Just tell the people who gave you it that you can't look after a puppy while you're pregnant. They'll understand, and they might even suggest what you should do with it.

thanks a lot granddad! what was he thinking?? no, im sure he had the best intentions. i think you should give it a little more time, i know its hard, we got a puppy when i was six months pregnant and it was tough. but your puppy will get used to the routine soon and it wont be so difficult.
