Elaine: most respondents in Yahoo U.S. should be able to speak and write perfect English. Text message or valley girl style speech is not being used by the poor foreigners that need answers. It is being used by a generation of under educated youngsters.

no, while I do find the text-speak to be annoying and pretentious, there are a good many questions posted by people who really want help or advice. I don't think they should be penalized for poor grammar or misspellings. The only requirement should be that they are able to post in a clear enough manner so they are understood.

I would like to see correct spelling and grammar in this forum, but Y!A is primarily concerned with content. People who have difficulty writing sometimes really need answers and we shouldn't prevent them from asking because of language difficulties. Also, many foreign students ask questions and they shouldn't be forced to write in perfect English (or any other language) in order to receive our help.

As for all this 'txt tlk', do vowels really mean so little to you that you refuse to include them?
Rant over :)
