Just enough to care for friends and family and have enough to help the poor. My yard is small and my needs are few, and if you plant it you must tend to it and care for it or like all living things it will quit producing and die.

I'm going to answer this in a different way.

Anyway... In order to plant a lot of these trees, first off you need alot of land and alot of security so people won't try nicking money off your trees when they've picked all the money off theirs.
So you kinda have to be rich in the first place in order to afford orchard space and security or...from inventing a money tree in the first place you could buy all the luxury and top security you need.

I'd personally plant 50 trees with 50 dollar notes on them.

Not many. The last time I planted a money tree in my back yard...everyone had one way or another to either steal or milk my money tree dry. LOL Never again.

Actually, I believe money trees would become extinct within 10 yrs. They'd be picked to death, stolen or transplanted with the "seeds" never having a chance to develop to make more trees. Or maybe money would no longer be as important as it is now since trees are everywhere, and the focus would be placed on something else...like, say water.

If money were growing on trees they would have no value. Therefore none to plant.

One for me and each of my children. Then it would be up to them to nurture that tree so it would stay fruitful for their children and so on ....so four (4).

No need to have ALL the money trees. Just a few, strategically planted that will be well nurtured for generations to come!
