The constitution is the supreme law of the land, and it divorces our government from religion, while allowing citizens the freedom to worship or not to worship as they please. Therefore, we have a secular government.
Someone here refers to the Federalist Papers as evidence that our laws are based on Judeo Christian principles. Although the Federalist papers provide some insight into the thinking of the drafters of our constitution, they are nothing more than a series of magazine articles written to convince the people of the State of New York that it was in their interest to ratify the constitution. These argumentative articles do not override the clear words of the constitution.
Here is a great web page which covers the topic of whether the US is a secular nation. It discusses the religious heritage and practices of US inhabitants in the late 18th century, the US constitution, the treaty of Tripoli (a treaty is second only to the constitution as a legal authority) and the beliefs of the founders themselves.

first amendment
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
It is clear they expected people to have a religion, but thought the government should not. Since people run the government they will have personal beliefs, but can not use the power of government to to promote their beliefs or to attack the beliefs of others. This means government actions should not be overtly or specifically religious, which is one definition for the word secular
Definition of secular-
or relating to the worldly or temporal
not overtly or specifically religious
not ecclesiastical or clerical

Secular, no. Go read the Federalist papers. We are a country whos heritage is Judeo-Christian, but we don't have a state sponsored religion like Britian, Iran, and the Vatican.
