I'm going to be attending a formal dinner party event in few weeks and my girlfriend will be wearing a stunning full length light blue dress. I need to buy a new suit anyway and tuxedo rentals in my area are out of the question. We've both decided on a moderately grey suit with light pinstriping. The undershirt will be light blue. I'm not sure what to wear as for as a tie. She will be wearing silver shoes to go with the dress. I was thinking something silverish or dark blueish for a tie. I haven't purchased anything yet so feel free to suggest any recommendations. Thanks.

Tony

this is the question for me since being in high school with a lot of formal dances, me and my boyfriend always have dress/tie matching situations.
i like your idea with the grey suit and the light blue shirt, those colors work well together.
for the tie, if you can find one, I would suggest finding a solid colored tie like the color of your suit.
having stripes or designs on it will take away from the pinstripes. so solid is the way to go!
hope you have fun!

That sounds very Sharp..and I think you both will look fantastic~ Sounds like you have picked out a nice suit to match your date....now go out and buy it so you'll have it already for your dinner party. I think the light blue shirt and a silverish tie would be perfect. Have a blast*~ :) Keep On Smilin*~

what about this
Go for a new black suit (go to the men's warehouse---they are great) and crisp new white shirt with cuffs and then pick up the blue in your tie. You don't have to be to matchy-matchty - that is out of style...but pick up the colors of blue in the tie maybe even in the cufflinks. Sharp new shoes and socks with a hint of blue

classic and handsome
have fun

I would go very dark gray. If you want to have a pattern in the tie, go with shades ranging from silvery to charcoal. I would not put any black in the tie, or at least as little as possible.
Also, don't feel you need to "match" your date's dress. As long as you complement each other, you'll be fine. Enjoy your event!

you named the exact outfit I would recommend. Silver/blue tie should set it off wonderfully.

How great of a boyfriend are you!

NO! first what color is your in good structure? and your tie consistently has to verify her gown so opt for a grey blouse with a army blue tie thats an similar properly bue of her gown. it insects the **** out of me even as adult adult males are not matching their dates haha

a nice silvery tie with a subtle stripe or check accent would look nice - make sure it goes with both the suit and the shirt.
