Its just this modern society where the media want to make the news and not just report it
For every genuine revelation of wrong doing there are probably a dozen that are made "out of context" as you suggest
Mind you many years ago the opposite was the case where the very powerful newspaper barons deliberately suppressed storied to save their wealthy Friends
I think I would like to see more of a balance , but I fear that with the public out there still buying the papers and paying Murdoch huge amounts for his SKY package then that won't happen

It is a very simplistic form of journalism. Label people as "goodies" and "baddies", praise the goodies, if you must, but really go all out for the baddies and you have your story. Little research needed, and anything even remotely shady enhances the story.
"Why?", you ask. Well, that is even simpler, it sells newspapers, and the "red tops" are the highest sellers, because people enjoy reading this stuff!

They print what they determine their readers want to read. Many people find salacious gossip more interesting than saying good things about people.
