just an old wives tale until I tried it last night, I had 3 slices of toast with generous helpings of mature English cheddar on all three of them. During the night I must have had 9 different extremely vivid dreams, I can remember every one of them in detail and each one was completely different from the next. On a normal night I don't remember the dreams very often so I was surprised that it works. If you don't believe me try it yourself. (just make sure you brush your teeth well afterwards )

Gilos, far from being a troubled night I woke up this morning totaly refreshed. All the extrat dreaming has done my brain a lot of good. Not one of the dreams was a nightmare but that may not be the case for everyone else.

Cheese wreaks havoc on your digestive system and nasal passages if you eat it before bed. That might explain the troubled night your had.

Anyone I know who eats chese before bed usually has trouble breathing through their nose (gets stuffed up) or mucousy or has a little tummy ache. Kids included.

It would be better to have that snack at tea time, but never before you sleep.

Palpable nonsense and an old wife's tale.... I love extra mature to strong cheese and quite often have on toast before going to bed... to no ill effect. Dreams are your 'computer-database' . When you are in deep-sleep , you're nearly dead and paralysed. REM Status kicks in about 1 hour before you wake up.... that's the time when we dream. Our dreams are memories from our lives BUT 'scrambled up' and quite often make no consious sense. Cheese doesn't make any difference to dreams.

I have had the same experiences as well. Haven`t had cheese in awhile and no dreams!

However, according to this article, the research proves differently....http://news.scotsman.com/uk.cfm?id=1923962005
