My car has been reversed into - making a nice big dent in the bonnet. Other than that, there's nothing wrong with it, its perfectly mechanically sound and runs well, and is fully serviced. But its 5 years old and has a lot of miles on the clock, its probably not worth any more than about £2-£2.5k, and its possible the repairs are going to cost more than this. I absolutely do not want the car written off as I'm emotionally attached to it (its the only car I've ever had from new), however if it is written off, how much do you get? The market value of the car? Or enough to buy a reasonable replacement with?

Renault Megane. It needs a new bonnet - not an old one from a breakers yard. A year ago someone hit it in the side and it needed a new door panel which cost £800, which is what makes me think this repair is going to cost a lot of money.

2002 - just under 60,000 miles. I should also add that this is likely to be an insurance claim against the person who hit it - they have owned up and are taking full responsibility. What my concern is is what happens if it gets written off.
