Who is the best "unknown" music artist in Japan?

What I mean is, what music artist do you know of that produces great music, but for whatever reason isn't very popular in Japan?

I could never really understand why there's never songs by "The Cure" at karaoke. I mean, they only have like 20 albums stretching back to the 70's. They have played in Japan a few times though, but still, for their size in the West, they're almost unknown in Japan.
