Make sure you don't have a CD in the drive then go into BIOS and set the hard drive as first and set all others to "disable" or none to force it to load the hdd first. You can always come back later and add cd as 2nd.

Also make sure the jumper (assuming this is not a newer SATA drive which dont have master/slave relations all SATA are master by default) is set for Master (primary channel) on the Hard Drive. CD should be slave on the primary channel or Master on a (secondary) channel.

Note: if you have tried setting the order before and it doesnt take then you may not be saving your settings... make your changes then hit "f10" on your keyboard and it should pop a box saying "save and exit?" hit enter and changes should take.

If that doesn't work and you wanna get all medieval on your pc and show it who is boss then power it down, unplug the power cord and press the power button (to safely discharge the capacitors) then take the left side off, ground yourself (either with a anti-static wrist strap or by touching unpainted metal with both hands at the same time for a moment) then unplug the 4 pin power (called molex) plug from your CD drive (can leave the data plug plugged in). Plug back in power up and assuming the computer sees your hard drive fine it now has no choice but to boot from the hdd first when you set it in the BIOS there will be no other option. When you got it set follow the above procedure again and plug the cd back in and you should be shiny (<---firefly quote for the day).

Open your BIOS setup utility, then go to Advance Bios Features, Chk your first & second boot device, if you see the word CD change it to HDD -0, use page up or page down on your key board. After the changes don't forget to SAVE your changes before exiting.

Are you sure you want to do that ? If you ever have a problem
you can run a recovery disc. You should always have your computer backed up. And a recovery disc. That's why the CD is up before your hard drive. Best of luck.

i always leave "boot from other devices" disabled unless loading software. you might want to consider this option
if going into bios and changing boot order doesnt work then you might want to disable the second booting device and set device 1 to IDE drive

Change the jumper settings. Set your hard drive as "Master" and your cd drive as "Slave". You can also check your current settings in BIOS.

When you first start your PC up, you often get told to hit DELETE button if you want to enter setup. Its in there. I dont totally remember exactly which header it under, but just steer carefully through it all and you will find it.
