Why is a barrel of gasoline at 98 dollars but the price of the pump is still less then when Katrina hit and a barrel of gasoline was much cheaper?

There were local shortages when Katrina hit. In those places, the price might have been higher. Nationwide, the price of gasoline is definitely higher now than when hurricane Katrina hit.

Also, $98 is the price of a barrel of crude petroleum, such as WTI (West Texas Intermediate). $98 is not the price of a barrel of gasoline.

well that's because after the Katrina hit disaster. they government don't have a lot of money to rebuild NEW Orleans or Miami so they have to raise the price of the gasoline so they can get some money from people. you see the government have some security and they don't want you to know. so like when a Hurricane hit, storms, Earthquake, Tornado, Tsunami. fires or what ever cause a million of dollar. they have to find a way to make some money to help out the other people who lost their home or who are now homeless. i don't know what you are complaining about i want them to drop the price to $3 or $2.75 because the Chinese are the one who are making us pay for the high gas price. you see they need a lot off oil so they will to pay any oil companies a higher price so they oil will go to them. so we have to deal with that if we want to survive to tomorrow.
