An ordered arrangement of particles in space.

Ionic compounds have high melting points, brittle, generally colourless etc.

1. Metals are good conductors of heat and electricity because they have free electrons. They have high boiling and melting points. They are sonorous and malleable. 2. Ionic compounds are formed when two ions bond. Ionic bond are very strong. Different from metals, ionic compounds DO NOT have free electrons so they don't conduct electricity in solid state. They, however, do when they are dissolved because the electrons are free to move. 3. Ionic compounds are normally formed between a non-metal and a metal because the non-metal needs to gain electrons and the metals needs to lose electrons to become stable.
