Murder in most of countries is punished by capital punishment . but what makes it worse is that it is not the right of the family of the victim to decide if the killer should be excuted or not but the law makes it the right of the state . to carry the punishment or not .
in some Islamic countries they have what they call blood money . the family if they want can negotiate pardon for money . i think this kind of system is not bad if adopted . Michel Jackson bought his way out in child moestation , why couldn't for example O. J negotiate his way out instead of denial ? .at least we could have known what happened .

From the answers so far i noticed that people think that the riches are benifitting and the poor not . a lot of families are very poor and a handsome amount of money can make a difference instead of nobody benifits at all .

Those who can afford it do. Only the blood money goes to lawyers instead of the victim's family.

It is absolutely right that neither a victim nor the relatives of a have a say in the punishment of a perpetrator because they may have no sense of perspective. People get ANGRY and that makes them unreasonable. The Courts are there to make objective and reasonable decisions; without them there would only be mob justice.

It is a culture issue. in many places the original purpose of punishment was to make the victims feel better. Most Western cultures now believe that the punishment of a criminal should help to teach them wrong from right so they can re-enter society or to act as a deterrent of commiting the crime.
OJ was sued for wrongful death...& is broke because of legal fees from his defense...he doesn't have any money left to pay for blood :))

Blood money is a bad idea, I would not want money from a murderer if he murdered my child, and by the way we all knew the true story of OJ. He murdered, paid his blood money to a lawyer and the system in USA got him innocent although he is as guilty as can come.

You CAN'T be serious, can you??
The answer is a no-brainer...because rich people would be able to get away with murder, and only the poor would be convicted of their crimes.
Does that sound fair to you? Is that the kind of country that you want to live in...where people of affluence quite literally get away with murder, just so that people like you can "know what happened"??
