I'm a DJ and I like www.beatport.com because it has some great electronic music to choose from, and very new releases.
If you're looking for mainstream radio type music and billboard hits, try soulseek. Easy to use and search.
And of course, Itunes is okay too.

Weill iTunes you ghave to pay for ya know...
Limewire is a good bet (even better get Frostwire as it's like Limewire Pro but for free) I have been using it to download music for about 2 years and i have never gotten a virus from it. Just keep a look out for any suspicious file names. Eg if you're looking for a song and loads come up that are say 3000kb in size and then a strange one comes up at the top wioth a size of say 150kb don't click to download it lol
The reason to use Frostwire? So far it's found every song i've wanted to download.

My cousin usually gets all her music from LimeWire. She likes it a lot because it downloads real fast, has a wide variety, and she's never gotten a virus. She also likes how you can not only get music but also video clips.
Hope that helps.

limewire: is good no viruses but if your downloading to much it slows your computer down
itunes: u have to buy music but it is very safe and trustworthy i use it alot
bearshare you have to pay but i havnt tried it
i have never heard of ares
of course, you could always just go to google type in the song name with "mp3 download" on the end thats how i download music free
personally i would recommend going out and buying albums of music but i still use a bit of everything eg free music downloads paying for music

Tried LimeWire, didn't like it. And many other since. But finally chose MP2 Rocket. You should have a virus and spy ware program like Norton 360, Mcaffe. Good luck with any
you choose.

Avoid Limewire as its users LOVE to share Viruses, Trojans, Spyware etc. Have a reliable anti-virus to scan for such things when downloading the files especially compressed files of size 857 KB etc.
Bear share uses same network of Limewire i.e. the Gnutella Network.
iTunes require you to pay if I am right.

I use limewire and I have never had any problems with virus's, and all of my friend's also use it and they don't either. So, IMO that would be your best bet. I may be biased though because I haven't used the other's that you mentioned.

i would say limewire, because it's "fast an free", as someone has said.
Itunes would be my second preference, but there not for free and limewire usually gets new music in faster.
