I work at a restaurant, and on Friday, the female companion of one of the cooks asked me if she could talk to me, so I led her outside. Once outside, she grabbed me by my arm and put me against the wall and got within six inches of my face and called me everything in the book, because she suspected me of fooling around with her boyfriend. Partway through her ranting, my supervisor came outside to where we were, and instead of telling her to back off, he stood there and watched until she finished. I feel slighted by the fact that someone in a position of authority allowed one of his employees to be assaulted and verbally abused by a non-employee, and he didn't do anything about it. What are my legal rights? I want to file a complaint, but I'm having trouble finding the laws that apply to this situation. Can anyone help me?

Yes, you can charge the person whom assaulted you; When filing the complaint, use you boss as a wittiness. (Just don't tell the boss your going to use her. Let the person who assaulted you, and the boss get subpoenaed. (Should sue your boss/workplace too. For pain & suffering, at the workplace.)
That way you can't get fired, or you can take your boss, and the Restaurant to court: For wrong-full dismissal. (If I were you, I would charge the Restaurant place, and or boss, for allowing a employee to attack you. So, go to the police, and without anyone knowing at your work place, and use whoever saw the assault, as wittiness. Your boss if under oath has to tell the truth. Take pictures of your body, and clothing. (if marked up, bruises, cuts, and scrapes.)

Note: No One Has The Right To Lay A Hand On You, and You Have The Right To Be Protected & Be Kept Safe At The Workplace

You have the right to refuse to go outside with her again. What exactly was the boss supposed to do though? I'm not sure he was required to do anything besides watch, in case you need a witness. He might be willing to testify about her abuse if you manage to get her charged with anything. She seems immature and not worth your time. I'm not sure whether it would help to file a complaint with the police because they are incompetent losers, but you could go to the local courthouse and ask about what to do. It depends a great deal on what you want. Do you want her charged with a crime? Do you want to sue her for money? Maybe take self-defense lessons to be able to defend yourself and not get hurt as badly. I'm not sure there is any perfect generic answer to your question. It's not a perfect world.

What she did was considered assault and punishable by law. File a report at the police station. Your supervisor could be considered an accomplice if he did nothing to help. Though you may want to remind him of this only if he refuses to be a witness. Also tell the owner what happened.

Well, the thing about that is, it's not even work related. Now if this happened between co-workers that is a different story. You can probably press charges against the girl of assaulted you, but that's about it.

File a case of verbal assault or moral defamation against the girlfriend of your co-worker and another complaint against your superior for not protecting you as his subordinate.

Yes to all 3 on multiple occasions, but not more than 1 at the same time.
