I know it is a rather big long shot but what if Mizzou goes and loses bad to Oklahoma next week and WVU gets upset by Pitt? Who would be put into the big game? Are they really suggesting that a 2 loss team could get in but not Kansas? We still have only one loss like a lot of other teams and that only loss is going to be to a top team. I tip my hat to Mizzou despite how much I hate them, they played a fantastic game and KU beat themselves a bit too. I just do not understand how our only loss would be to a top 5 team and they would put a 2-loss team or Ohio State into the mix when they got beat by a team that has been on the edge of ranking all year. Just does not seem right to me. Once again this is all assuming Mizzou and WVU lose next week which wont happen

Well, Kansas do still have chance to end up in national championship game.. All they have to do is hoping for Oklahoma to beat Mizzou, Pitt ot Beat WVA, and LSU to lose in SEC championship game... and if this is going to happens then Kansas will be back at No 2 spot.. It's kinda crazy but It did happened when Nebraska who didn't win BIg 12 but ended up being no 2 and went to Championship game

Without having won the Big 12 Title game, Kansas has virtually no shot to make it to the national championship. If Mizzou loses to Oklahoma, Oklahoma would have a better chance of making it. While it may be mathematically possible for Kansas to get into the national championship game, it is so unlikely that it can be dismissed.

Doesn't this season really reinforce the need for a real playoff rather than some stupid made up computer formula to determine who should and should not play in the championship game? Why not consider LSU, OSU, West Virginia, undefeated Hawaii, USC, and others who have had good seasons? It can't be that hard to come up with a eight or sixteen team playoff for the national title.

You just have to look at history. Despite only having one loss to a top 5 team KU did not win its conference. Precedent has been set, most recently and resoundingly in 2003 when Oklahoma lost but one game to #15 Kansas State which cost it the Big 12 title. Oklahoma slipped into the Sugar Bowl to play LSU for the National Title (the Coaches Poll part anyway) due to the strength of the computer rankings that year - which gave the BCS #1 to Oklahoma despite their being ranked 3 in both the Coaches and AP polls. There was such an uproar over this (and the fact that USC got left out and won the Rose Bowl in championship fashion) that the BCS was completely retooled for the next year, the AP poll pulled itself out of the BCS (and the Harris Poll was "born" to make up for the AP refusing to participate), and the precendent set - A team that doesn't win it's conference will always play second fiddle to a team that does....

Perhaps if it was a 3 or 4 loss team that was champion of the Pac-10, SEC or ACC - but it won't be. The ACC champ will have but two losses (Either BC or VT), as will the Pac-10 champ most likely (Either ASU or USC...can't see both losing next weekend). The SEC champ...maybe....Tennessee might pull one out next weekend and be a three loss champion. But these two loss championship teams will, in the eyes of the voters, be more deserving than a one loss Kansas team. Just wait until the polls come out....and even if VT or USC is ranked below Kansas next week I can almost guarantee the Harris and Coaches poll voters will shift things around if all hell breaks loose and WVU and Missouri lose to prevent a non-conference champion KU from playing in the national title. In addition the computer polls will have Kansas very far down due to their overall strength of schedule....just like Hawaii is ranked so much lower by the computers than the human polls.

I'm not saying it's fair, but it's reality. The championship games are both a blessing and a curse. They allow teams in the Big12, SEC and ACC one extra shot at a highly ranked team to give them a final boost in the polls, and give the impression that only someone who wins these games should be allowed to represent the conference in the big game - after all, why should a team that lost be allowed to bypass what the winning team had to play for. I think this is why Georgia will not play for the national championship, if they won the SEC they might have - but without winning their conference their chances are zero. Conversely lack of championship games allow teams from the Big East, Big 10, and Pac-10 to avoid having to play a highly ranked opponent that would cause a potential fall (read Ohio State). Kansas will not play for the national title, no matter what the scenario. Mangino has led Kansas to unprecedented heights for the program this year, and a BCS at large berth awaits the team - fans should be happy for this, and for the future of the program. KU may in future years contend again, and succed where the 2007 team failed.

Yes they are out because the Conference Championship bonus as was explained about. Too many people screamed about an unfair setting. The BCS doesn't change enough, but that was one change that got forced on it. That is also part of why the polls are worth so much more now. The Computers used to be like 2/3 of the total, now each poll is 1/3 and the Computers are the final 1/3.
Oh and to the Freddie Adu character that is a common misconception about the game. It actually wasn't a medal game, it was a semi-final game. The US and USSR actually played to decide who would go to the Medal round against Finland, I believe, and that was where we won the gold. The improbable win just got so hyped and since the US won the gold most forget there was one more game.

Unfortunately, there's no hope. LSU and KU had the whole world in their hands before Friday and they both couldn't get the job done. It really depends on how far down Kansas drops in the polls and in the BCS. WVU, Ohio State and Georgia have better shots to make it to the title game before Kansas does. Kansas had a wonderful season and their 1 loss season will get them into a really fantastic bowl game!!!

they finally got exposed for the team that they were against, the first top 25 team they played this year. they are not horrible but they are not good. yes, they are officially out of the race, no chance now. even with a weak big 12 this year (texas losing alot and oklahoma not doing as well as they could have, kansas lost agaisnt there only actual challenge for this year.) The BCS is horrible this year years like this remind me of how badly a playoff system is needed. Who really, is good enough to play for the championship game this year?

sad to say but them losing to Mizzou was it. now all the voters are gonna run with the "their schedule": is weak bit. which is rather sad because the players have no say in the schedule and Mizzou was a good team, its not like they lost to a bad team. thats how bad the BCS system is, it favors certain teams in my opinion. if Ohio State makes the NC game, i won't even watch. i heard during the game that Ohio State and Georgia may benefit since they dont play and other teams could lose and they move up, sad huh.

You can't lose to the one quality team on your schedule and then play in the national championship game. Sorry. Same argument applies to Ohio State by the way. Even Florida should have an edge over these schools, let alone LSU, SC, Oklahoma et al.

I haven't done the math.....therefor I think they aren't out of it. BUT, if they don't play in the Big 12 title game...they are 99.9% out. Ohio State doesn't play another game until their bowl game. The Big 12 winner would have a stronger claim if it is Missouri or Oklahoma. The winner of the SEC championship game also has a claim. USC can also slip in there.

It's a complicated year. The BCS winner will almost certainly not be the best team in college football. That team is, as much as I hate them - probably USC.

Remember in 1980, the US beat the USSR for the gold medal in hockey......was the US the better team....NO....but we were in that game and that's how it is decided.

ku is out. georgia is out. they both did not win their conference. if (and its a big if) mizzou loses ou and west virginia loses to pitt. tenn somehow beats lsu because they always get lucky and bc beats virginia tech again. usc would play ohio state or ou (for beating mizzou and the #1 team) would play ohio state. if usc loses to hopeless ucla than no contoversy about ou playing osu .wow we really need a playoff. make the bcs games a playoff system. it would make the rosebowl game a lot bigger every year. and for god have mercy, get rid of the those dam bowls with 6 win teams. *** the poinsetta take a crap in my mouth bowl where two teams get a chance to reedeem themselves for next year.
