1/2 ton is plenty sufficient

Depends on the outside temperature. In most places in the US, a half ton [6000 BTU/hr] of cooling capacity would be sufficient.

I use in the U.S. a 7200 BTU for my 175 sq. ft. room.

Why is it that in the U.S. we measure heating/cooling in BTUs (British Thermal Units) but in Britian they use tonnes. Seems a bit backwards, eh?
