Because once corporations have more wealth and resources than the government (i.e. the society as a whole), their power transcends the boundaries of the social contract.

The US government laid off of Bill Gates over the Microsoft monopoly suit in part because Gates threatened to relocate Microsoft's corporate offices abroad, a move that would have had economically catastrophic consequences for the entire Pacific Northwest US. Is the government truly able to exercise political authority over Bill Gates? Hard call...

Government is responsible to the people. Corporations are responsible only to profit margins. When corporations become more powerful than the government, then there is a problem.

If you want the comforts of modern civilization then you need corporations. But if you want to keep your civilization then you need to make certain they abide by laws.
Corporations are not evil. They have no morality. What they are is entities concerned ONLY with profit. They cannot be expected to behave according to moral ideas of right and wrong unless you make it unprofitable to commit wrongs. If there is a profit in harming someone then a corporation MUST do so. Their sole reason for existence is to generate profit for their share holders. That is their only concern. If you understand that and hold them accountable to laws then you have no problems. Our problems stem from allowing corporations to manipulate politicians. We should not eliminate corporations but we should create a strict separation of business and politics.

Because they are exploiters and polluters. They should be brought under control. Nationalization could be a goal, an intermediate step could be greater oversight by individual stock owners and the government. Of course it has to be a committed one, not like Bush's

They shouldn't be eliminated. Who do you think is responsible for the CPU that is running your computer -- along with literally countless other things you take for granted in your daily routine?

Tax them fairly, yes! If they are cooking books or involved in any other illegal activity punish those responsible.
