the problem is not conserving it, its how can we filter the dirty water.

the first law of thermodynamics states that no energy can be created or destroyed only transformed.

following those guidelines we have X quadrillion liters of water on the earth, out of that only 12% of that is readily drinkable.

we pollute the water we take in by bestowing on it the responsibility of removing our toxins and wastes.

lets say we do discover a way to purify any water regardless of its toxicity....then once we filter it, what do we do with the toxins?

my suggestion, enjoy it while you can and dont have kids.

Sorry, but I don't think it's about conserving water, but conserving on the amount of undocumented immigrants the state of California allows to cross our borders and set up camp here!

While I do try to conserve, I am also tired of paying all these people's bills through my taxes, so they can wash their clothes, brush their teeth, take showers, and have a nice, clean glass of water to drink...all while I volunteer my time to call in when I need to have their nasty graffiti removed from my neighborhood.

It's about giving back and not taking away. I'm thirsty for answers too!

Only water your lawn at night (less evaporation), landscape with plants that require little water, don't let the water run while you brush your teeth or shave, keep a water bottle in the fridge so you don't run tap to get the water cold, take 4 minute showers instead of baths, use the water saver setting when washing dishes/clothes.

Bathe together?

Seriously, there are several good ways that work. Lawn watering consumes an inordinate amount of water if we do it improperly. Don't overwater your lawn and water at night when less water evaporation takes place.

Also, use appliances such as dishwashers and clothing washers efficiently. Check your plumbing for leaks and have them fixed. Make sure you have a good flapper valve in your toilet.

Good question.

Once schools are built to care for the homeless there won't be a need to conserve water, but until then there will be no rain!!!

A low-flow showerhead always helps.
So does not running water when brushing your teeth.
Also having a 1.5 gallon per flush toilet rather than the old standard of around 6 gallons per flush.
Your local municipality can probably give you more information in regards to your specific location, too.

A few ways:
- Turn the water off while you brush your teeth
- Fill a water bottle up and put it in your toilet tank. You will use less water per flush
- Turn off the water in your shower while you soap up, and just use it to rinse off
- This is more for girls, but turn off water when shaving
:)
