It's better than shooting them. Deadly force is usually the only option left after tasering someone, you take the taser away, and you make it a much shorter path to the side arm.

They're not criminals until they've been charged and tried. Tasering is usually of suspects, who may or may not have committed a crime. Although I think it could be a useful non-lethal tool, I don't think it's always being used wisely or judiciously.http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07254/816402-153.stm

You don't taser criminals, - you taser anybody that won't comply.

I would prefer that firearms be used instead of Tasers

I think the problem is that many many many cops are tasering first, asking questions later. Taser kids, pregnant women, old folks, for nothing more than disagreeing with cops, or being confused about why they are being interrogated. Though a person was supposed to INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY!!??!!
The thumbs down must be from cops. Almost everyday (including today) there are stories in the news about trigger-happy cops wrongfully tasering somone.

My thought is that the criminals who did something bad, deserve it, and they should be happy that they got tased, rather than an officer using his/her gun.

I think the police should do it more often at higher voltage.
