It depends where the car is. If it's on someone else's property, it's trespass. If you are passed out drunk, it's drunk driving believe it or not. If you pull over into a rest area and go to sleep because you are tired, well, you did the right thing. Questions like this seldom have black and white answers.

According to the University of California police- During hours of darkness, no person shall sleep in any vehicle parked on campus. Special exception may be made by the University Police.

Motor vehicles manufactured with a sleeper berth while the sleeper berth is being
used, in a non-residential area, by the vehicle operator for sleeping or resting, provided
that the vehicle is not in a queue, and provided that the operation of the vehicle
does not create a public nuisance.

But besides that all i found is that its not illegal as long as your not somewhere illegal and as long as your not cause a nussance its cool. But you can call the courts and ask.

I was sleeping in my car in the park on a Saturday at 9 am and the police knocked on my window and woke me up and told me I cant sleep in my car. They asked my name and wrote down my license plate number. I know you can be given a ticket for parking on a city street and sleeping in your car but I thought it would be ok in the park. Geez! I wasn't bothering anybody. I was quiet and minding my own business. I mean come on. Im not sleeping in my car because I want to. Im just down on my luck right now. There is no justice theres "just us".

If it's your car and your parked in a legal space, then I don't see a law against it.

I slept in my car once passed out after partying, I don't
see why it would be illegal.

Its your car. I hope you have a pillow and blanket.
