You see it all goes back to the days of the Faunis Kingdom. They both evolved from the Coyete (Ky-O-T) but they split apart because of their fangs. Its just like discrimination in our world today, the Vampire quickly took over and began establishing rules to put the werewolves down. They even poisioned all the werewolves they could get a hand on with Luniaras. That is why werewolves change during the time in the Lunar Calender when there was a full moon.

Vampires and werewolves have been hating each other for some time in comic books and stories and there have been a lot of different versions of the story.

Underworld have complicated back story about werewolves being the slaves of vampires, plus some other things as well. Other versions include that werewolves are the only animal that vampires can't control and so on.

It is the old, movie conversation, who would win in a fight, a werewolf or a vampire, Jason or Freddy Kruger, Alien or the Preditor, A pack of African Lions or the Offensive lineup of the Dallas cowboys, Bill gates or Steve jobs.

Werewovles and vampires have a similarity in that if bitten, but not killed by one, you will become one. The represent different aspect of failed humanity. Vampires are about power and sex, while the werewolve is more innnocent, but that innocence also implies savagery, the hunt and the kill.

The similarities and the differences that go together make the battle more interesting (eg Catholics vs Protestants, Sunni Muslims vs Shiites and Democrats vs Replicans)

Well a long time ago before the Vampire/Werewolf feud began they lived together in small isolated communities, they even married into the same circles, then one intermarried couple from a noble family had a violent disagreement about shedding fur in the bathroom sink and ever since then Vampires have hated Werewolves who just can't help shedding every now and then.

Abbott & Costello tried their best to figure this out too in the movies, but U know what they found was just more pure laughs & money coming in hand over fist when they combined the two movie genres!

They really don't hate each other, it's just a movie thing! They really play poker together at each other's houses on Tuesday night & on Thursday night are on the same Bowling League Team -- they're actually best buddies! I even heard the Werewolf was the best man at Dracula's last wedding & oh, those stories I heard ... you should have been at that bachelor party -- it truly was a howling good time!!!

watch underworld its a pretty tight movie and they explain it pretty good. in the movie werewolves are referred to as lycans

In the Underworld universe, Vampires and Lycans are not mystical creatures, but rather the product of a virus. Sixteen centuries ago, a man named Alexander Corvinus was the only survivor of a plague that wiped out his village. Somehow, the man's body was able to mutate the virus, mold it to his own benefit and he became the first true immortal. Later, he had three sons, one of which did not inherit his father's immortality and was simply human. The other two were bitten, one by bat and one by wolf, creating the Vampire and Lycan lines. Corvinus' third son also carried the Corvinus Strain, hidden away in his genetic code — an exact duplicate of the original virus, passed along to his human descendants through the centuries. This, according to Singe, is the key to creating a Hybrid.

Since that time, a war has broken out. The Lycans were enslaved by the Vampires, used as indentured servants to be the guardians of their lairs during the daylight hours, but they revolted during the Middle Ages. Both sides have their own lair and chain of command. Vampires have Death Dealers, vampire warriors charged to fight and kill the Lycan enemy. There are three elders, rules and tradition demand two be at rest while one is awake; this arrangement calls for each elder to rule for one century followed by two centuries of sleep.

(thats the synopsis of the film on wikipedia)

I don't mean to sound rude, but neither exist. So they don't really hate each other.

However, if you have noticed a certain trend in books you've read about them, that is most likely b/c the people who have WRITTEN books about vampires/werewolves have READ books about vampires/werewolves and got the idea stuck in their head that the two should not get along in their own book.

Both hunting for the same thing, when there is only a limited supply (not that there isn't much blood, but the blood can only be taken sparesly as to not create trouble).

It also depends on the book you read.

It's like the human race, some illogical reason pops up and everybody agrees.
I don't really read those books and i wouldn't know vampires hated werewolves, but the reason I think is what I said.

Not all werewolves and vampires hate each other. I'm a Vampire and have many werewolf friends. But it was a feud started by our ancestors
