A friend of mine was told the other day that she looked "filthy" and "unclean", simply becasue she did not wear make-up in the picture that she had shown that other person. She also recieved other comments such as 'you look OK, but you'd look better with make-up'.

Has society & our culture really made it impossible for a woman to 'look good' without layering their face in a cake of make-up?

Such brainwashing is also strongly reinforced by the media. Everywhere I go these days - whether its just taking my daughter for a walk in her pram, or going grocery shpping, I cant help but notice young girls - as young as say maybe 10 - that have plastered their faces full of make-up.

But, at the end of the day, is make-up really necessary to make you look good? I see mums with newborns walking around the streets with bags under their eyes that sink right to their chins - but they still remain beautiful to me. I would never even think of calling them 'filthy', as their beauty never leaves

Isnt every single woman and man beautiful in their own right? What gives US the right to judge? Why do we need to hide our natural beauty to be accepted into society?

No... trust me... my friend didnt look bad without make up, in my opinion.

She has a round face and is a classic beauty - she looks just like any other woman without make-up...

Please dont distribute any thumbs down to anyone - everyone has their right to their own opinion - and I am more than eager to hear it (read it, lol).

ABSOLUTELY NOT. It is disgraceful that no one has faith in natural beauty anymore. A woman without make-up I see as confident. She loves herself the way she is.

Blame this image of the perfect woman wearing make-up on Hollywood and celebrities.

You are right about the media. Younger and younger girls feel pressured by society and are caking their faces with make-up because they believe this makes them beautiful. We need to seriously alter this image and show women that they are beautiful as they are and don't need to plaster their faces with products that are usually expensive, tested cruelly on animals, and are made with who knows what?! Who wants to put that on their face everyday?

I have been wearing makeup for 35 years and have always felt so ugly and insecure when out in public without makeup. Most recently I have had such a busy schedule that a lot of the time I have not had the time to apply my makeup while out paying bills and market. I noticed that most of the people I dealt with did not care if I had makeup or not they were just as friendly. I believe it's people that have known you to wear makeup and then suddenly you either wear less or none at all that will make comments about it because they know you normally wear it. You know you are beautiful so it doesn't mater what they say. This is you!

Filthy? Unclean? Those do seem like an odd comments. Maybe flat or plain but not filthy

I suspect its women who complain about other women not wearing makeup. Men don't seem to notice details like that.

Everyone is beautiful? No, I am afraid not. Can women be beautiful with out make up? Absolutely. But honestly some people are less attractive. And that mom the bags under her eyes may have inner beauty but it sounds like she looks terrible on the outside.

I must agree that many women use too much make-up. Lipstick is usually the only thing I use.

ADDED
Strangely when men say they like women without make up, they really mean they like women that they cannot tell are wearing makeup. I know that I and my freninds get that compliment when we have just enough makeup on :)

Carrying too much debt. Guess that will be my scapegoat for this month... Seriously, though...the pressures that exist because of carrying too much debt are a very plausible cause for depression. Over diagnosis is next on my list... everyone has problems - that's a fact of life. In America, we are socialized to go to the doctor and get a "feel better pill" instead of addressing the problem head-on. When the first SSRIs came out and they were "so safe" compared to previous antidepressants, doctors were handing it out like candy. Third, I will question whether depression is worse among women than men, or if women are just more likely to seek treatment for it. I think (B) is correct. Which leads to the question: What is it about our society that is causing such widespread depression? At which time I will refer to both above answers and add: the economy, global politics, national politics, war, greed, selfishness, lack of belief in a higher power, crime rates, and poor quality food supply. And reflecting on that list, it's a wonder there is anyone at all out there who is content with life.

I agree 100% with you. And if you ask most MEN (not that this is what it's all about, but regardless) they really DONT like all that make-up and hair "product." They don't like the greasy feel. They think it looks fake. And it really does make your skin unhealthy and wrinklier over time. Everyone is naturally beautiful if they would look to their insides once in a while and develop a personality that makes their eyes sparkle and their face glow just because their character and life experiences are rich.... they would appear more beautiful without makeup.

I'd say humans are pretty damn far from perfect Pastor Art.
We live in sin and whats more we WANT to live in sin.

Lets start with:

Lust - We are driven by our sexual nature. Most people these days are more than happy to sleep with either sex and purely for pleasure not for procreation or the sacred bond of love.

Obesity is on the rise. This is made up of two sins: Gluttony and Sloth.

Greed - Humans are never satisfied with what they have, always demanding more and more, material objects, wealth, pleasure... and of course Envy goes hand in hand with greed.

Pride - OK so some people have low self esteem, but everyone has their moments of sheer pride in themselves, and we are told that pride is a good thing to have... well not always.

Wrath - Humans are becoming more and more violent everyday, with out breaks of rage claiming many victims from workplace harrassment to road rage and civilian disputes and domestic violence.

As I said, humans are FAR from gods most perfect creation.
If we were, we never would have eaten from the Tree of Knowledge and fallen into sin in the first place.

I think it depends on how you look but trust me, makeup can only cover so many blemishes. I think because the images (on and off screen) that we get in today's world just inforces the idea that we can only look beautiful with makeup and coifed hair.

On another note, growing up, I got a lot of heat for wearing makeup (especially from my mom). To me makeup isn't so much to make me pretty or show that I'm inconfidnet but it's just something I love. I do go around a lot without makeup, like at the grocery store or something but occasionally I love it. I don't really wear that much, I'm pretty natural with it.

I never wear makeup....maybe some lip gloss or mascara if going out...that's all.....and every guy I have ever known has said nothing but wonderful things about it.....they especially like how little time it takes me to get ready and how I don't look all 'done up' but 'natural' instead.
It is very much a part of the culture, but one I thankfully never submitted to.....my skin is healthier and I never feel like I look different after washing my face.

I don't think we can improve on how God made us.

I don't understand those who put make up or even want to pierce the ears of young children.

For 5 years I told my bride to be, she was beautiful without make up.

Then on our wedding day her Mom got to her and layed on the makeup.

I wanted to kiss her, not a bunch of makeup.

Then for the next 15 years she didn't wear any makeup.

There was a really cute movie on TV last night with this really cute 9 year old girl in it but they ruined her "cuteness" by putting makeup on her.

When will man learn to learn to leave God's perfect and final creation alone?

Must be personal preference. Myself and many of my male friends have found women without makeup attractive. I think makeup can look gorgeous and it can enhance natural features, but it is not the secret to being attractive, it's a pretty accessory. I'll take a big smile over ruby red lips any day of the week.
