Trojan in computing world is a malicious program which does something nasty to the system instead of performing an approved action. This process is usually stealth or makes use of a program name (usually a microsoft program) or similar named to it.

The name trojan (or trojan horse) has gotten its name to the "gift" used by Greeks to infiltrate the city of Troy.

Trojan horse, or simply trojan, is a piece of software which appears to perform a certain action, but in fact, performs another. Contrary to popular belief, this action, usually encoded in a hidden payload, may or may not be acutely malicious, but Trojan horses are notorious today for their use in the installation of backdoor programs.

It's similar to the Trojan horse in the old Greek stories. It's a seemingly harmless or even helpful program that tricks you into running it. When executed, it delivers a malicious payload.
