This is a case of the Law of Pythagoras - the square on the hypotenuse of a right-angled triangle is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides. So 4x4=16, 5x5=25, and the square on the hypotenuse is the sum of these, 41. The square root of 41 (by calculator) is 6.4 (approx.), so you want a bar 6.4 meters long.

Pythagoras, (AxA)+(BxB)=CxC
A=height
B=length
C=Diagonal
therefore:
(4x4)+(5x5)=CxC
16+25=CxC
CxC=41
C=square root of 41 (whatever that is)
