We have done the cake when the kids were younger. We also bought straw at the beginning of December and put it in a pile. When my kids did a good deed, showed extra kindness, etc. they were able to take a piece or two and place it in a large manger that we had under the Christmas tree. (This was on their honor system.) On Christmas morning, we brought out the baby Jesus and placed Him in the manger that was filled with straw by their loving kindness shown during the month.
We also read stories through out the month of December. Tell Me the Secrets, Tell Me the Story - great books, each chapter is a story of its own. There is a book called The Last Straw by Paula Palangi that is about the tradition listed above. Miracle in a Shoe Box by Franklin Graham, The Tale of Three Trees, Tell Me the Truth by Joni Eareckson Tada.
Each year we have a family blessing ornament that we choose by what God has done in our family the past year. It has been a nurse angel ornament for a year that my sister pulled through almost certain death, a man at a desk for the year my husband started a small business, one for a scholarship and acceptance at a college for our daughter, etc. We are able to add another each year and reflect on each of the past years the way God has always been ever faithful and reminds us of all the blessings we continue to receive - He is awesome!!
We have done miracle in a shoebox, Angel Tree, gifts for our troupes and many others to help take our eyes off of ourselves and onto blessing others in Jesus' name.
As wonderful as it is to keep the focus of Christ in Christmas it is just as important to share His love, grace, mercy and forgiveness each and everyday. So many people don't know how much God loves values each and everyone of them and how much worth they have to Him! He wants none to perish w/o knowing his forgiveness & reconciliation. God bless and Merry Christmas.

We get up Christmas morning, we do all the chores, if my grandparents are coming over we wait for them to arrive, then my dad reads the Nativity story from the Bible before we open the gifts. At least that's what we did when I was a kid. A lot things have changed since then, but my dad still reads from the old KJV Bible before we open gifts; and that, I hope will never change.

you're acceptable, Jesus became into no longer born on Dec 25, Tammuz became into. he's interior the Bible too. What do you think of the 1st Passover became into all approximately? It became into the depiction of the delivery and demise of Jesus. As for procuring alongside and loving one yet another, we are recommended to try this all and sundry 3 hundred and sixty 5 days long, no longer basically in the process the wintry climate. and because Jesus died on His birthday why all the nativity scenes, why no longer crosses, bloody crosses throughout city?

The cake is nice. We did that once, put lots of candles on it, though. I am searching for things to do to celebrate that does involve commercialism.
