i'm also insecure but i would never post my photo on here asking people to rate me. i just find it odd. why put yourself through more pain? or maybe they want to be reassured they are pretty/handsome?

There could be several reasons, but I think most of them can be categorized as:
1) They're insecure and looking for some reassurance.
2) They're proud of how they look and are fishing for compliments.
3) They really are uncertain of what others think of them and want to get an idea of how they look in other people's eyes.

Either they are fishing for compliments, or yeah, they are really insecure.
I dont really get the whole insecure/reasurrance thing, because 50% of the people that answer say things that might upset them.
I'm with you on this one, it's confusing.
I asked a question like this before as well.
Whatever the reason, its annoying :|

I think they only want to hear the good stuff. If bad stuff is possible, then they might not post a picture and specifically ask what people think. They might just wait to hear that they're "sexy as hell". I would never post my picture here either--I already know how adorable I am! *LOL* ;-)

Many of these users, from the few I have seen, seem very young, and well, they need outside input. Insecurity is extra diffifult during those teenage years...

because they are insecure about what they look like. That or they just want to hear how good they look/like the attention (vein). I do use my own pic. but I've never asked anyone to rate me, yet people feel the need to do so & I find it very annoying. I don't give a **** what other people think of me

because
1.they are not self confident
2.they want to be admired as"pretty"
3.They want to have people commenting on their looks and make others jealous
4.they really think they are ugly and want to know who thinks they are "good looking"
for some reasons it's stupid and for some it's okay.altogether it can get annoying.

i have no idea. i guess its because their bored and have nothin else to do. so they come on on here and post photos of themselves asking people to rate them. someon even asked to rate their cat! now thats going over the top

Because they are very young and insecure. I kinda feel sorry for them, but they'll grow out of the narcissistic stage (hopefully.) :)
