I think every life deserves it's life. It's a living thing, and it depends on you to keep it going until it can care for itself. Even when it's born it still needs you. So what if it's a product of a drunken night? It's not the fetus' fault you didn't tell him to use a condom. It's just innocently growing inside you, listening to your heartbeat and sucking its tiny thumb even at just a few weeks gestation. It's an innocent life that deserves a chance to be loved and to live.

Firstly I think you need to explain the term 'partial birth abortion'. You either have an abortion or your carry through the pregnancy. It's not like choosing to partially eat ice cream.

I think it's very important for a society to give the option to have an abortion. Some women mentally, physically or monetarily cannot afford to give birth.

The argument to this is that a woman can choose to carry through the pregnancy and then give the child up for adoption. Which is true and valid. But not always that simple. 9 months of pregnancy can affect a great change in your health or/and
life. As one example, if some women were to show that they were pregnant they could be fired from their job. How is she to support herself if she doesn't have family support and looks pregnant (she's not likely to be hired).

In Australia we have the option of the dole (government payment if you're out of work), but not all countries provide that sort of backup.

And I think the argument for abortion after rape speaks for itself.

There have been studies done that show that just because abortion is made illegal in a country doesn't mean that less women choose to have it done. Making it illegal only increases the chance that the woman will be harmed from back-alley jobs. I suggest that you find these statistics.

Whether you're doing a for or against or neutral, I think this last point is the strongest to consider.

Edit: Ok, I just quickly read the posts that explained 'partially': Partial Birth Abortion is a method to abort a baby as late as seven months into a pregnancy.

I'm for abortion, but I'm against that! At 7 months, you're just being lazy/having second thoughts. If you know you can't carry through the pregnancy then you make the hard decision early on. Not 2 months away from it's birth.

I think this is the only time I'll agree with the right for lifers.

this is for the answer that Bananas gave- Partial birth abortion is not a partial abortion,my dear friend, it is partially giving birth to the baby, and then cutting it's head to kill the child. There is nothing about this that is right, I cannot understand how anyone could actually do this. Every part of the baby is delivered except the head. Sorry, but when I read her answer I could not let it go. Abortion at any stage is wrong, stopping a beating heart, is taking a life, pure and simple- and you cannot tell me that the baby's heart is not beating because the heart starts to beat at 3 weeks after conception. This is a scientific fact.

well my self would not think of a thing but depends on your age and your circumstances why you want abortion well there are other ways with out doing this i would have the baby and let your mum and dad look after it until you are ready to take over or there is family,s out there that can not have children would like your baby or even friends might look after it for you just because you are waiting on some English papers to arrive then you should have been on some kind of pill or some thing after all the baby did not ask to bee born if you have this done then you might regret it later in your life so i say you should think about what you really want to do this is my honest answer for you to day from spyder

It is cruel. It's also extemely sad that people care more about the welfare of stray animals than these babies. I don't know about anyone else, but I could no more do this to my child than I could kill my baby as it lay sleeping in its crib.

"Partial Birth Abortion is a method to abort a baby as late as seven months into a pregnancy.
The procedure is typically as follows...

The doctor spends two days forcibly dialating the mother's cervix.
The doctor uses forceps to pull the baby's legs down; rotating the baby so its head is away from the birth canal.
The legs & body are pulled into the birth canal, until only the head, which is too large to pass through the cervix, remains in the uterus.
The doctor uses a sharp instrument, such as scissors, to puncture the base of the baby's head.
The doctor inserts a tube into the hole he created in the baby's skull and suctions out the baby's brain, allowing the baby's skull to crush and pass through the cervix."

abortion is wrong, no matter what. But for a person to wait until it is almost time to have the baby, when it is fully formed and has everything it needs to survive, then just killing it, is murder pure & simple, to me it is practically the same as a person killing a newborn baby, that would clearly be murder. If you are that far along & don't want the baby, then put it up for adoption, because it is a living human being & has never done anything to hurt anybody, what reason would anybody have to take its life.

abortion is a very controversial topic. its hard for me to pick sides on it because they both have a very good point.
AGAINST ABORTION- it makes sense to be against it because you are killing a baby. Its not the baby's fault that a teenager or young adult went and got pregnant if they knew they didnt want a baby. Of course there is the chance that your were protected but it didn't work. They should be on birth control.
FOR ABORTION- it also makes sense to have this option available. Teenagers or young women who get raped shouldn't have to have this baby. it isn't their fault that someone forced this baby upon them. Or is a person with a disease that could be carried to the baby. It might be better to put the baby out of its misery.
MY OPINION- i am more on the against side because instead of killing the baby they could put it up for adoption. at least give the baby to have a life.

hope i helped : ))

I equate it to Partial Murder. In the world we live in where they have babies live after being born literally months prior to their due date, born extremely premature, how can abortions still be OK? My problem is selective laws & policy. It's legal to do with your body as you please? Does your state have a seatbelt law? So you can go have an abortion, as long as you wear a seatbelt on the way. You can even smoke on the way even though it's been proven to be hazardous to your health and even worse for those around you. You can force your kids to be locked in an enclosed car for as you drive as you puff away, but make sure you have your seatbelt on.

Too many times stories have been told about people being tried for murder or man slaughter because they caused the death of an unborn baby. Why can a court try a person for murder in one instance but if the mother chooses to kill the baby, it's all fine and legal.

I am ultimately opposed to abortion for several reasons, but it really agravates me that laws that allow it are so inconsistant.

No time for thoroughness...but it is a gruesome practice. I don't even want to describe it. All abortion is hideous. This however is a form of abortion where one can not claim ignorance (such as saying it is just tissue). This is a baby that could conceivably live outside the womb.

Sick, there is no reason to have one. If the baby is delivered that far then there is no reason to kill it to "save the mother". It is just a way to kill and since the baby didn't take a breath they think it isn't a baby yet. There is no medical explaination to have one in order to protect a mother. My daughter was born at 23 weeks. She is now 7 years old and normal. She could have been legally aborted that way when she was born. Instead of giving her a name they would have thrown her in the garbage. Just Sick.

Why would you want to do it - that's my question? The baby is completely viable outside of the womb. Why not just induce labor or c-section and let the baby live in the neonatal (baby) intensive care unit until it matures enough to live on it's own? For each baby born there are thousands who wish to adopt. Many people cannot have children - why not bring some good to an unwanted pregnancy (or a pregnancy that is threatening someone's life and must be ended for that reason). I mean, why come so far with the pregnancy and go through all that pain just to end it all pointlessly?? That is my opinion.
