You'd need a little more information then just that to determine if this is from stress or not. Oscars can lay on their sides, this is very true, and dig in the substrate as well. If you are changing your water out regularly, using the proper filtration as these are messy fish, and keeping a varied diet, I would not worried. Any of these factors off kilter can cause some levels of stress. Observe him closer and longer to see if there are any other activities he does that seem odd.

Oscars are infamous for resting like that. Let it be. If you were to reach your hand into the tank and touch it, it would get extremely scared, and be under a huge amount of stress, which is not healthy. If it doesn't move for more than 20 minutes, attempt to create a current near it to see if it is alive or not.

No your oscar is fine unless it has ick( white spots) on it...most oscars have a short attention span and can get bored easily. If your oscar is not too agressive and your tank is big enough get him a friend.. or sumthing to chase around

my oscar does this sometimes also. My oscar is very big. you can check your temp in the tank also it may be too cold in there. when my parrot fish's tank is too cold it goes into like a hibernation on its side. it is all up to your fish. like I said my oscar does this also. and he is not dead
